About Us

 What is Porter's founding principle?

“[[A Song of degrees for Solomon.]] Except the LORD build the house, they labour in

vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain

 (Psalm 127:1).”

This psalm was apparently written by David for his son Solomon who was to build the

temple. It reminds us that all human effort without God is ultimately in vain. We need

God's help. This is a message throughout the Bible, and it applies to church security.

Why is it called "Porter"?

There are three key words related to security in the Bible: watchman, doorkeeper, and

porter. They are basically synonymous. They mean to keep, guard, watch, protect, or

preserve life. Porters and doorkeepers specifically guarded entrances – to the city

 (2Sam 18:26, 2Ki 7:10-11), the temple (1Chr 9:17-26, 1Chr 15:18-24), or the palace. This was not

a menial assignment. The porters performed an essential task. The porters of the temple

were Levites (1Chr 9:17-26, 1Chr 15:18-24). David said, “For a day in thy courts is better

than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to

dwell in the tents of wickedness. (Ps 84:11).”
